Agartala, Tripura, March 21 (HBTV): Report of a missing minor girl in Magroli village, Kailashahar under Unakoti district of Tripura has sparked tensions in the area after some individuals gave the issue a religious and communal color.

It was alleged that a 14-year-old girl, who belongs to the Hindu community, was abducted by a Muslim youth identified as one Jaheed Hossain. The boy, who was apprehended from his residence with the assistance of local villagers and community elders, refuted the accusations to the media statement.  He asserted that the girl willingly accompanied him. He also denied any use of force to marry her.

Following a complaint filed by the girl's father at the Irani police station, a team of police led by officer –in-charge Ripita Bhattacharjee of Kailashahar Women's Police Station. They reunited her with her family.

Local residents and right-wing groups protested the perceived leniency towards the accused person.

Demonstrations ensued outside the police station, prompting intervention from the Subdivision police officer Kailashahar Jayanta Karmakar. He assured the protestors the arrest of Hossain within 24 hours, a promise he fulfilled.

Hindu right-wing organizations raised concerns of 'Love Jihad,' alleging a deliberate effort to convert the girl to Islam through marriage.
